Since game version V3.0 and later, game rules such as difficulty settings have changed to a method where all settings are configured with a single code called the "Sandbox Code". The configurable items can be confirmed in-game at "Sandbox Options". This page guides you through the process of creating a code in-game, pasting it into the game panel, and applying it.
Configuration method has changed from V3.0
Previously, difficulty was specified using numerical values. From V3.0 onwards in the game client, game rules including difficulty are integrated into the sandbox code. For this reason,[GAME] Difficulty (V2 以前のみ) in the launch settings (Startup tab) will not work in V3.0 and later. Changing the numerical value in this field will not change the game difficulty, so please configure it using the procedure on this page.Step 1: Create a Sandbox Code in Your Game
The code is extracted from the game on your personal computer.- Launch 7 Days to Die on your computer and open the "New Game" screen.
- Open "Sandbox Options" and select rules such as difficulty level. You can also select the official Preset from "Preset" and then make fine adjustments.
- Press "Copy Code" and Copy Code the displayed content.
- Scavenger ― The easiest setting.
- Adventurer ― Easy setting. This is the default.
- Nomad ― Standard difficulty.
- Warrior ― More challenging than standard.
- Survivalist ― Quite strict setting.
- Insane ― The most difficult setting.
Step 2: Paste into the Game Panel
- Log in to the game panel and open the target server.
- Open the
Startuptab and paste the code into the[GAME] Sandbox Codefield. - Restart the server from the
Consoletab.

[GAME] Sandbox Code field in startup settings. Paste the code here.- Whitespace and line breaks before and after the code are automatically removed when saved.
- If you cannot save, please verify that the code has been copied correctly from beginning to end (check that it is not truncated or mixed with explanatory text).
Rules entered in the panel are rewritten each time the server starts
[GAME] Sandbox Code Code entered in is rewritten to the configuration file every time the server starts. Therefore, even if the configuration file reverts to the game's default values due to game updates or file verification, the rules will be restored on the next startup.Startup tab. This includes server name, description, password, public setting, maximum players, world name, save data name, and so on. Even if you directly edit these in serverconfig.xml, they will be overwritten with the panel values on the next startup, so please make changes in the Startup tab. If you directly edit items that are not in the Startup tab, they may revert to their default values due to game updates or file verification. When leaving a field blank or wanting to revert to defaults
While the [GAME] Sandbox Code field is empty, no write-back will be performed. The values in the configuration file will be used as-is.
For this reason, rules written previously will remain for a while, but when the configuration file reverts to its initial values due to file validation or a game update, the rules will also revert to their defaults.
To revert to the defaults (Adventurer), paste the following default code and restart.
